Bay State Relief Wants To Open Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Framingham

Without a local bylaw in place, a medical marijuana facility could go anywhere in Framingham, where it is not restricted by Massachusetts law or local zoning.

A Framingham-based non-profit would like to open a medical marijuana dispensary in Framingham.
The company, Bay State Relief Inc., with an office on Route 9 across from the massachusetts State Police headquarters, was one of 47 applicants for the five medical marijuana dispensary licenses in Middlesex County.

The CEO and CFO of the company spoke Monday night before the Framingham Planning Board, according to a report by Boston.com

The Planning Board held a hearing to create Medical Marijuana Overlay Districts in which dispensaries and cultivation centers would be allowed. The proposed dispensary district for the sale of marijuana would run along Route 9 between Temple and Beacon streets, excluding the area of Framingham State University, reported Boston.com

The Planning Board made no decision Monday and continued its hearing to Oct. 3. The Board is expected to make a recommendation for Special Town Meeting to vote on in mid-October.

In May, Framingham Town Meeting rejected a proposed temporary moratorium which would have banned medical marijuana dispensaries through June 30, 2014.
