Today, U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark, D-MA, joined members of the House Pro-Choice Caucus as an original co-sponsor of the Protect Women’s Health from Corporate Interference Act of 2014, legislation that protects workers from denial of contraceptive coverage.

The bill was introduced as a response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood v. Burwell. It would explicitly prohibit for-profit employers that maintain a group health plan for its employees from using religious beliefs to deny employees coverage of contraception or any other vital health service required by federal law.

“The dangerous precedent set for women in last week’s Supreme Court ruling is unacceptable,” said Clark. “When the law provides for insurance companies to cover basic health care for all, that means all people are entitled to that health care, period. This bill ensures that no CEO or corporate entity can step between a woman and the medical care she needs."

Submitted by U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark's Office.
