Emergency Numbers for When Irene Arrives
Irene is expected to strike New England as a tropical storm, but she will still have strong winds and lots of rain, possibly 6-8 inches worth. Here are some numbers you may need.
Hurricane Irene is off the coast of the Carolinas, but is expected to strike Massachusetts sometime on Sunday.
Forecasters have it reaching Massachusetts, including Framingham, likely as a tropical storm and not a hurricane.
It is uncertain how severely the storm may impact Framingham, but meteorologists are talking about Irene dropping 4-8 inches of rain possibly. That could mean street flooding and flooded basements.The MWRA has been draining reservoirs in MetroWest in anticipation of the storm's anticipated heavy rainfall.

Framingham Patch will give you the most up-to-date information, but to prepare, here are a few important phone numbers to save in case:
- Town of Framingham will activate its Emergency Operations Center on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. Call 508-532-5800 after the center is activated to report emergencies.Before the center is activated, call 9-1-1 for all emergencies, including down wires, trees, etc.
- For high water and flooding issues, call the at 508-532-5940
- NSTAR: 1-800-592-2000 (to report gas and electric outages)
- Verizon: 1-800-VERIZON (1-800-837-4966) (to report outages)
- Mass211: Call 2-1-1 for hurricane information
- Red Cross: 508-595-3700
- If flooding happens, has a limited supply of sandbags for pick up only in case of emergencies. Call 508-532-6030. Caution: Filled sandbags weigh up to 70 pounds.
