Framingham Hires New Building Commissioner

Framingham Town Manager announced Tuesday he hired a new building inspector

For more than a year, Framingham's building commissioner was on paid leave pending an investigation.

In Michael Tusino was named acting building commissioner and the Town of Framingham became advertising for a new commissioner.

Tuesday night, Framingham Town Manager announced he is taking away the "acting" title from Tusino naming him Framingham's new building commissioner and director of inspectional services.

"In my interactions with residents and businesses of the Town and with clients and customers of the division, he has received high marks for professionalism, fairness and service," Halpin told Framingham Selectmen.

"He has been an outstanding leader in creating our interdepartmental code enforcement task force and despite being short-handed within the division itself has dedicated his time and that of his staff to this town-wide priority," said Halpin. "Lastly, he has embraced my vision of town government as a customer service-oriented organization and has played a key role within our senior team in making this important adjustment in how we carry out our work on behalf of the community and taxpayers of Framingham."

Tusino, in his role as assistant building commissioner, was permitted to pursue after hours and weekend work activity, said Halpin.

"In his new role, he has agreed to phase out any such outside after hours employment to fully dedicate himself to the work of Building Commissioner here in Framingham," Halpin told Selectmen.

Tusino had served as building commissioner in the Town of Groton from 1996 to 2007.
