Layoffs Occur at Framingham Pharmacy Linked to Meningitis Outbreak

Steroids produced by New England Compounding Center have killed 14 and infected 169 individuals across 11 states, as of Oct. 11.

New England Compounding Center has laid off some employees.

"The events of the past two weeks are a great tragedy, and the thoughts and prayers of all those connected to New England Compounding Center continue to be with the individuals and families affected. As a result of these events, on Thursday and Friday of this week NECC informed employees of a workforce reduction at the company - a necessary step under the current circumstances," said NECC in a written statement.

Steroids produced by NECC have killed 14 and infected 169 individuals across 11 states, as of Oct. 11. The steroids, according to Framingham company, were distributed in 23 states. Massachusetts was not one of them.

Reuters is reporting the company laid off about half its workforce or 40 employees.
