MBTA Holding Rate Hike Hearing in Framingham Tuesday

The MBTA is proposing to increase fares by 5 percent on July 1, 2014.

The MBTA is holding public workshops across the Commonwealth on its proposed fare hike. The MBTA is proposing to increase fares by 5 percent on July 1, 2014.

There will be a public workshop in Framingham on Tuesday, April 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Blumer Room of the Memorial Building.

The public hearing will be an opportunity to offer recorded comments, although written comments may be submitted through April 30 at fareproposal@mbta.com.

The fare increase is projected to raise MBTA fare revenue by approximately 4 percent and result in less than a 1 percent reduction in ridership.

The fare increase is consistent with the needs expressed in Governor Patrick’s Way Forward Plan issued in January 2013 and with the Transportation Finance legislation enacted in July 2013.
