Wickford Bridge Project Could Be Completed in 2013

MassDOT is on a new schedule to complete the Wickford Bridge project, hopefully, by the end of 2013.

Recently, it was announced that the Wickford Bridge, a Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) project won't be completed until the spring of 2014.

The news irked Saxonville residents and Framingham motorists.

But Framingham Selectmen Chair Dennis Giombetti told Framingham Patch he met with MassDOT officials and the contractor and the project could be completed before winter and in 2013.

"A plan was worked out with MassDOT and the contractor," said Giombetti. "In all likelihood, the project could be completed before winter."

MassDOT is hopeful the project can be completed in 2013, too.

“There was a two-month delay while the bridge beams were made. The current schedule projects that the bridge deck work will be done by winter and we are hopeful that will be the case," said MassDOT Press Secretary Sara Lavoie.

"We have to be realistic because the remaining work is temperature sensitive —concrete pours, waterproofing and paving," said Lavoie.  "If winter comes strong in November and December we may be looking at the bridge opening next year."

The bridge closed in March 2013 and was scheduled to re-open in fall 2013.
