Brophy, Hemenway, Potter Road Will Start School Later

New Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott has moved the start time for three of the town's elementary schools, a few minutes, to 9:15 a.m.

Brophy, Hemenway and Potter Road elementary schools will now begin their day at 9:15 a.m. and end their day at 3:15 p.m.

Although no reason why was mentioned in a letter that went out to parents this week, it is likely due to transportation issues.

For example, Brophy elementary students get their bus after a bus has completed both a run at the high school and one at McCarthy Elementary School. Several times last year, the buses were late to pick up students in the morning and late getting to Brophy Elementary to take the students home.

In a letter to parents, Scott wrote:

"I trust this letter finds you enjoying your summer and some time with your family.  We we will be making an important change, as we prepare for this coming school year, which will affect the school hours for Brophy, Hemenway and Potter Road Elementary Schools. This change will affect only these three schools. Effective August 29, the bell times for Brophy, Hemenway and Potter Road Elementary Schools will be:
9:15 a.m. Start of the school day
3:15 p.m. End of the school day

The drop off time for these schools will be 9 a.m. There will be no change to
the early release scheduled release of 1 p.m."
