Framingham High Competes In Drama Festival Finals Tonight

For the 10th time in a dozen years, the Framingham High School Drama Company will compete in the finals of the state's drama festival.

For the 10th time in a dozen years, the Framingham High School Drama Company will compete in the finals of the state's drama festival.

Framingham High is scheduled to perform The Diviners at 7 tonight at the Back Bay Events Center, the old John Hancock Hall, at 180 Berkeley St. in Boston. There are three high schools performing tonight. Tickets, if available, are $20-30 for the trio of performances.

There are 14 high schools that qualified for the finals of the 83rd Annual Massachusetts Drama Festival, sponsored by the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild. The winner will not be announced until the awards ceremony on Saturday at 8 p.m.

The Diviners centers around Buddy Layman, a boy who suffered brain damage in a drowning incident that killed his mother but has the ability to find water and CC Showers, a former preachers and stranger to the Indiana community where Buddy lives with his father and sister.

There are a dozen students in the cast, but more than 70 students involved in the production said Donna Wresinski, who is directing and producing the play with Chris Brindley.

The production's stage manager is Kelsey Kilduff.

Students must set up their stage within 5 minutes, perform within 40 minutes and take down the stage within 5 minutes during their performance. One second over and they are disqualified. The entire production is students designed and executed, down to the set design, makeup, hair, sound, lights and costumes.
