Framingham High Jazz Band Qualifies For State Finals

For the second year in a row, the Framingham High School Jazz Band qualified for the state finals, scheduled for tomorrow at Framingham High.

For the second year in a row, the Framingham High School Jazz Band qualified for the state finals.

Framingham High and Cameron Middle School will host the state finals tomorrow, March 29.  

The finals feature the top bands from the Commonwealth. Bands that earn gold medals at finals will get the opportunity to perform at the Hatch Shell in Boston in May. 

Framingham High is scheduled to perform at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Division 1 with a dozen other schools at Framingham High. For a complete schedule click here. Division 2 schools will compete at Cameron Middle tomorrow.

The public is invited to attend performances at either school. There is a charge for admission. An awards ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with a performance by the Ken Hadley Big Band before the awards announcement.

Last year, Framingham High earned a Gold medal in the finals and performed at the Hatch Shell in Boston on Mother's Day.

Earlier this month, the Framingham High Jazz band 1 competed in the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education's Northeast District Festival at Reading Memorial High School to qualify for the state finals on Saturday. They won a silver medal.

Besides the Silver medal, Framingham High won a MVP Award for its division and three musicians won soloist awards, said band director Brian Cervone.

  • Eric Tarlin, alto sax
Eric Tarlin also was awarded the Most Valuable Player for all of Division 1, said Cervone.
