Framingham High School Ranked #25th in State By National Magazine

Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School, located in neighboring Marlborough, was ranked #2 in the Commonwealth and 146th in the nation.

US News & World Report released its annual list of the nation's top high schools Tuesday, and Framingham High was ranked among the best public high schools in the country.

The report ranked Framingham High as the 25th best public high school in Massachusetts and number 513 in the country.

Framingham Superintendent of Schools announced this week he is beginning a search for a new Framingham High principal.

In March, Dedham Public Schools offered its Superintendent post to Framingham High Principal Michael Welch, a Framingham resident. Welch has been principal at Framingham High since 2005.

The national magazine writes "Framingham High School is ranked 25th within Massachusetts. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams. The AP® participation rate at Framingham High School is 49 percent. The student body makeup is 51 percent male and 49 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 32 percent. Framingham High School is the only high school in the Framingham."

The magazine is incorrect as there are three high schools in Framingham - Framingham High, Marian High and Keefe Technical High School.

The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 19,400 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. The list includes charter and magnet schools.

Editor's Note: Marian High is a private Catholic High School but Keefe Technical is a public high school, located in Framingham that serves five communities.

The magazine also describes Framingham as a "small city," and as everyone in town knows, it is the Town of Framingham.

Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. The top 500 schools received a gold medal. Framingham received a silver medal

Boston Latin was ranked #1 in Massachusetts (56th in the USA) and Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School, located in neighboring Marlborough, was ranked #2 in the Commonwealth and 146th in the nation.

Neighboring, Dover-Sherborn High School was ranked #7 in the state. Ashland High School was ranked #19 in the state and Lincoln-Sudbury was ranked 45th. Natick High was unranked by the magazine.
