Framingham High Student Arrested After Selling Brownies With Marijuana to Other Students

Two students, who arranged the night before via social media to purchase the brownies with marijuana from another Framingham High student, had to be treated at a local hospital after becoming ill.

Framingham Police arrested a Framingham High School student, after police said she sold brownies with marijuana in them to other high school students Monday, Oct. 7.

Two of the three students, who ate the brownies, were treated at a local hospital.

Police detectives Monday afternoon arrested an female Framingham High student, age 16, and charged her with charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and distribution of marijuana in a school zone. Since she is a juvenile, no name is listed in the police log.

The student was arrested with 8 marijuana brownies, said Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini. She had sold two brownies, said Brandolini.

All students have been suspended from school pending disciplinary hearings, said Framingham High School Principal Michael Welch.

"This is an extremely dangerous sequence of events, and these decisions could have had disastrous consequences. The safety of our students is always our top priority and this was a very troubling incident. I am grateful that these students made their way to our medical office, and our school nurses did an outstanding job of immediately assessing and reacting to their needs. Thankfully, the students are going to be O.K.," said Welch in a letter to parents Tuesday night. "There were so many levels of danger for students in this set of incidences. On-line interactions with strangers should always be avoided and can lead to bad decisions. Purchasing and eating food laced with unknown drugs from an unknown person is not only against the law, it is also potentially deadly."

Mid-morning Monday, a student went to the nurse’s office at Framingham High stating she had eaten something she should not have eaten. That student explained she had eaten a brownie, that was obtained from another student she did not know by name. A short time later, a second student came to the nurse's office and stated the same thing.

The nurse called 9-1-1.

During questioning by emergency personnel, the students said they had purchased brownies from another student, whose name they did not know.

The two students, who became ill, said "they had arranged for the purchase via social media the night before. The seller had indicated the brownies were mixed with marijuana," explained Welch.

Framingham Police were contacted immediately, said Welch.

"A full investigation by Framingham Police and school administrators ultimately uncovered two students that purchased and then ingested brownies containing marijuana in school. They were transported to the hospital and were treated and released to their parents," said Welch. "An additional student who had eaten some of the brownie was treated at the school and released to parents."

Framingham Police Detectives conducted an investigation and made an arrest of a female student Monday afternoon.

"Parents – please always closely monitor your children’s interactions via cellphone and social media," said Welch in his letter to parents. "Please also discuss this incident with your children and advise them how to make safe, appropriate decisions and to seek out an adult they trust when they need help or advice."
