Framingham Schools Hiring a Director of Academic Supports Again

The position is responsible for "improving student achievement and heightening staff performance."

Framingham Public Schools hired Sharon DeCarlo as its Director of Academic Supports earlier this year, but the position was posted again last week on the school district's website.

The position is responsible for "improving student achievement and heightening staff performance through coordination and delivery of programs and professional development focused on curriculum design, leadership supports, and instructional strategies."

A source in the District said DeCarlo submitted her resignation in September. Previously she was Executive Director of Instructional Programs at Newton Public Schools and the Director of Elementary Education at Hopkinton Public Schools. 

The position would report to Framingham Public Schools Director of Educational Operations Sonia Diaz, a new position created by Dr. Scott when he started with the Framingham district.

No salary for the director post was listed.

The job's qualifications include:
• Three or more years of successful classroom teaching experience
• Knowledge of state curriculum frameworks and common core standards
• Knowledge of instructional pedagogy
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff
• Experience planning and delivering professional development 
• Experience with performance-based assessments and effective use of student data to inform instruction
• Experience with tiered instruction and systems of support
• Supervisory license


Responsibilities, posted on the school district's website, include:
• Assess strength of Tier I and Tier II interventions to improve services
• Design and manage MTSS
• Design Professional Development for differentiated audiences
• Provide training for math and literacy coaches and Department Heads
• Provide training for Title 1 interventionists
• Collaborate efforts with Director of Curriculum and Professional Development, Director of Special Education, Director of Student Support Services
• Help plan year-long Administrator Institutes, Aspiring Leaders, and Speakers’ Roundtables
• Provide and oversee training in Understanding by Design for curriculum committees
• Supervise and lead Professional Development Committee
