Framingham State Rams Soccer Defeats Salem 2-1

Ram sophomore Isabela DeSouza, of Framingham, had an assist in the win.

The Framingham State University women’s soccer team recorded its first conference victory of the year with a 2-1 win over Salem State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Rams improve to 2-4 on the year and 1-1 in the Conference.

The Rams took the early lead with a goal just under four minutes into the game.  Sophomore Isabela DeSouza (former Framingham Flyer) flicked the ball in the box toward the goal and junior Kayla Austin one touched it into the back of the net.

The Vikings answered with the tying goal at the 20 minute mark as CeCelia Cresta-Devinedribbled in from the 40 and found the back of the net for the equalizer.

A minute later, the Rams answered with what would prove to be the game-winner.  Junior Cara Murtagh sent a cross into the box and sophomore Marisa Parent volleyed it into the back of the net for the winner.

The Vikings outshot the Rams 11-6 in the game and held a 5-1 advantage in corners.  Sophomore McKenzie Vershon picked up the win in net for the Rams making four saves.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday evening at Rhode Island College at 6 p.m.,
