Framingham State University Vows To Hold Tuition, Fees Flat, If Governor Approves Budget

"One of our top priorities heading into this year was to provide some financial relief to our students and their families," said Framingham State University President Timothy J. Flanagan.

Framingham State University pledges to hold tuition and fees flat for the upcoming academic year if the level of funding for higher education approved by the legislature on Monday is signed off on by Gov. Deval Patrick, said the university in a press release.

“One of our top priorities heading into this year was to provide some financial relief to our students and their families,” said Framingham State University President Timothy J. Flanagan. “We are now poised to do just that. The level of support for public higher education approved by the legislature represents a tremendous endorsement of the work we do and acknowledges that college affordability is one of the most critical issues facing our country today.”

Annual tuition and fee increases have become the norm in public higher education in recent years, as financial support from the state has dwindled. Framingham State University has made every effort to hold the line on fee increases without sacrificing the quality of its academic programs. These efforts have included substantially increasing the money set aside for financial aid, to assist those students and families most in need. The University has also increased the amount it takes in through grants and fundraising and worked with the state to invest in energy-efficient upgrades that are saving the University hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

“We are going to continue to do everything we can to ensure that Framingham State lives up to its commitment to accessibility and affordability,” Flanagan said. “Holding tuition and fees flat is a huge step in the right direction. We are grateful to Governor Patrick and the legislature for supporting us in this effort.”
