Framingham State Wins Battle of Undefeated Teams in Volleyball

The Rams were led by junior Andressa Fernandes of Framingham, with a game-high 21 kills, 11 digs, a block and a pair of aces.

The Framingham State University women’s volleyball team remains unbeaten in conference action this season after defeating Bridgewater State University 3-1 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Framingham’s Athletic & Recreation Center Tuesday. 

Entering the contest, the Bears and the Rams were sitting atop the MASCAC standings at 3-0, but now the Rams take sole possession of the top spot as they improve to 4-0 in the conference and 18-5 overall on the season. 

Framingham State took the first two games by scores of 25-20 and 25-17, before Bridgewater State took a close third set. The Bears maintained the lead for much of the third game but the Rams rallied from four points down to tie the set at 22-22.  After trading points, the Bears used a pair of Framingham hitting errors to secure a 29-27 win in the third.  The Rams regrouped and jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the fourth eventually taking the set and the match 25-16.

The Rams were led by junior Andressa Fernandes, of Framingham, who filled the stat sheet with a game-high 21 kills, 11 digs, a block and a pair of aces.  Freshman Danielle Girard and sophomore Ashley Nee also recorded double digit kills with 15 and 12 respectively. Girard also had a strong defensive game with 23 digs, while sophomore Michelle DeJesus, of Framingham, chipped in 30 digs.  Fellow sophomore Kassandra Jermyn added 53 assists.

The Rams return to action on Saturday with a tri-match at Worcester State at 11 a.m.
