UPDATED: Freshmen Started School, But 3 Schools Without Power

From NSTAR PR representative: Emergency areas, including fire stations, schools and hospitals are their first priorty to restore power. They have placed Nobscot Fire Station, Route 9 Fire Station, Hemenway Elementary, Potter Road Elementary and King Building on the priority list. She told Framingham Patch NSTAR likely will restore power to customers in those neighborhoods at the same time as when they restore the priority locations' power.

Framingham Schools Business Director Edward Gotgart said three schools in Framingham have no power - , and

Hemenway and Potter Road elementary schools do have some lights, due to a generator, he said.

School can open, as scheduled tomorrow, Aug. 30 at both locations, with generator power, he said. Only issue, would be no hot lunches could be served.

Gotgart said he was still waiting to hear from NSTAR on when power would be restored, as the generators are not built to last days.

The Nobscot Fire Station a couple of doors down from Hemenway Elementary, is also without power, and running on a generator, said Assistant Fire Chief John magri. The Route 9 Fire Station has no power, and is up and running via a generator, also.

The King School does not have a generator, he said. Gotgart said the school department "hopes" to have the and the school's Technology Department up and running from the King Building by Tuesday. The school also houses other school departments and the town's preschool program . The good news, is that preschjool is not scheduled to start until next week.

Gotgart said he has no reports of wind or water damage at any of the schools, as of 10 a.m.

Freshman started school this morning at  Students are scheduled to be dismissed early this morning.

The said that the buses were able to get to the grade 9 students this morning, except for a "few cases" where some roads were still closed due to downed trees and wires.

Several school districts cancelled school today. Ashland had a 2-hour delay. students in grades 1-12 return tomorrow, Tuesday.

It is unknown as of 8 a.m., if there is power in all of the town's schools.

There may be an issue at , as the Nobscot fire station is w/o power and running on a generator. There also may be an issue at , as residents in some neighborhoods near the school has not had power since early Sunday morning. principal Kim Taylor told Framingham Patch Sunday, power at her school was returned on Sunday.

We are awaiting word on damage to any of the schools and the power situation at all the schools and will update as soon as we hear.
