Fuller Middle School Vice Principal Gerson Colon is on "extended leave," according to Principal Sharon Seyller.

Colon was newly hired to the Framingham Public Schools this school year.

A Dracut resident, he worked in the Lawrence Public Schools for more than 15 years. Framingham Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott, who came to Framingham from Dracut Public Schools, hired Colon last year.

Allison Benabdallah was appointed to be interim vice principal at the Fuller Middle.

Benabdallah "has been at Fuller for many years, and excels as a teachers and producer of the music and drama productions. We are fortunate to have Allison to assist in this role as a licensed administrator," wrote Seyller in an email to parents Sunday night.

"We made an internal appointment to fill Allison’s teaching role, and on Thursday, we met with the students and staff on the Opal team to discuss this change," wrote Seyller to parents. "The changes that have been made were done so with the best interest of Fuller students in mind, and please be assured that student safety, and teaching and learning will remain at the forefront of our practice and decisions."

Fuller has had several leadership changes in the last two school years.

Fuller Principal Juan Rodriguez announced in Dec. 2012 he would be retiring. He was then moved to a central office position, and the school was run by Vice Principal James Bergeron, until Seyller was hired in May 2013.

Bergeron was then moved to Walsh Middle School in June 2013, where he serves as vice-principal and then Colon was hired.
