Marian High To Create President Position; Principal to Step Down

Marian High School Principal Catherine Clifford will step down at the end of this academic year.

At the end of this academic year, Marian High School will move to a new leadership model, according to Principal Catherine Clifford.

In a letter to parents, Sister Clifford told parents she will step down as principal but will take on a newly-created role of President of Marian High School.

The president will have the responsibility of budgetary issues. The principal will oversee the day-today academic activities.

Marian High School, located on Union Avenue in Framingham, is a Catholic, college preparatory, co-educational secondary school for students in grades 9-12. Founded in 1956, today the school has about 315 students coming from 20 MetroWest communities. And 98 percent of the graduates attend college.

"Over the past few months, I have spent a lot of time thinking about Marian and my continued contribution," wrote Clifford. "As you may know or have observed, it is difficult for me physically to get around the school in a way I believe a leader should and I do not want to give less than 100%  for this school community."

"I talked to the Board of Trustees about resigning," wrote Clifford to parents. "As a result of this discussion, we have decided to implement" the President-Principal model.

"I will assume the position of President, will work fewer hours and will proudly tell the story of Marian to anyone who will listen," wrote Clifford.

The President will also be responsible for advancement, working with the development staff, alumni, and donors to strengthen the school's assets.
