Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild Awards Walsh Student Best Actress

The winners of the Massachusetts Educational Theater Musical awards were announced at the Majestic Theatre in Boston Monday night, June 9.

Walsh Middle School student Hannah Wade won the best lead actress award from the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild Monday night.

Wade, who played the role of Ti Moune in Walsh's production of Once On This Island, learned of her award at the Massachusetts Educational Theater Musical awards ceremony at the Majestic Theatre in Boston Monday night, June 9.

Walsh Middle School was nominated for a total of five awards by the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild.

The musical directed and produced by Sheron Doucette, was nominated for "Overall Production, Acting Ensemble, Dance Ensemble and Choral Ensemble."

There were 63 participating companies and 308 actors nominated. Of those nominated 95 were named finalists in the middle and high school levels.

The musical Once on This Island tells the story of "Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death. "
