MetroWest Chamber Awards $11,000 in Scholarships to 11 Seniors

The MetroWest Chamber of Commerce awarded $11,000 in scholarship money to 11 graduating seniors from the MetroWest region yesterday, May 28.

The MetroWest Chamber of Commerce awarded $11,000 in scholarship money to 11 graduating seniors from throughout the MetroWest region.
Students and their families were feted at a reception yesterday, May 28, sponsored by Staples, Inc. 

The MetroWest Chamber Educational Foundation Scholarships were established to assist public or private high school seniors who reside in the MetroWest area and wish to continue their education beyond high school, whether in college, vocational or technical schools.

Each student received a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to help achieve their educational goals.

Partially funded by the Chamber’s Annual Golf Tournament and the Taste of MetroWest, five students received monies to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers. Winners included:

  • Katie Dam from Milford High School
  • Timothy Lonergan from Framingham High 
  • Joann Morrison from Joseph P. Keefe Vocational Technical High 
  • Yan Shneyderman from Ashland High 
  • Niharika Singh from Franklin High 

Additionally, the Educational Foundation awarded six, Arcadius, Emma and 
Robert Lemieux Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. Recipients 
included:
  • Genevieve Heaps from Ashland High School
  • Kathryn Heffernan from Westborough High 
  • Ari Kagan from Framingham High 
  • Iracely Sanchez from J.P. Keefe Vocational Technical High 
  • Kyra Shreeve from Algonquin Regional High 
  • Andrew Weinan from Hudson High 

“The MetroWest Chamber has long been committed to helping students achieve their educational attainment goals. By granting scholarships to these worthy candidates, we are helping to secure the future for the region’s employers and for these young people," said Chamber board member Chris Kostiw, from People’s United Bank and Chair of the Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee. "The cost of education is a significant deterrent for many students and we are delighted to be able to assist them in pursuing their studies.”

Scholarship selection committee members also included Lisa Cremonini from Capitol Financial Advisors, Blake Alleyn from the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center and Chamber President & CEO, Bonnie Biocchi.
