New Stapleton Principal To Greet Parents Monday; Vice-Principal To Be Hired This Week

Principal Kim Taylor to Stapleton Elementary parents: "I am confident that we will have a full-time Assistant Principal in place by mid-week, and you will be able to meet that person."

Newly-named Stapleton Elementary School Principal Kimberly Taylor send an email to parents on Saturday.

Taylor, will oversee Dunning and Stapleton Elementary Schools through the end of this school year, until a new principal is appointed for Stapleton Elementary. First-year Stapleton Principal Joseph Smith resigned last week.

Taylor has been principal at Dunning Elementary, the district's only Level 1 school, since 2009.

"It is my pleasure to come on board to support the students, staff, and parents of the Stapleton Community!  I look forward to working with you over the next few months to assist in giving Stapleton the attention and care that it truly deserves!  As a person who was born and raised in the Framingham Public Schools, I know how deeply committed and special your community is, and I truly believe the next 3 months will be an exciting time for all of you," Taylor wrote in her email to parents.

"As I share my time between Dunning and Stapleton, I am sure you are wondering what that will actually look like, and I want to be certain that I am on site often in order to get a sense of the strengths and challenges that we will face together.  With that said, I will be at Stapleton for a full day on Monday, March 31st from arrival until dismissal to greet students, parents, and staff, as well as spend some time in classrooms and around the building.  Although there will not be a formal Meet and Greet on Monday, I assure you that there will be opportunities later during this week to meet me in person. I am confident that we will have a full-time Assistant Principal in place by mid-week, and you will be able to meet that person, as well.  More communication will follow regarding those opportunities," wrote Taylor.

Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott announced to staff on Thursday and Parents on Friday that Smith had resigned and he had appointed Dunning Principal Taylor to oversee both elementary schools until a new Principal can be hired for Stapleton for the 2014-15 school year.

"I will also continue to build my weekly schedule, depending upon the needs, events, and activities at each of my schools.  Some possibilities that exist are half-days in each building, or 2 1/2 days per week in each building, or 3 days in one building/2 days in the other," wrote Taylor to parents. "With full time Assistant Principals on site in both buildings, it gives me a bit more flexibility to respond to circumstances as they may arise."

"As a principal, I have always said that my top priority is that the students under my care feel safe and happy, and  here at Stapleton, that will be no different, said Taylor.

Framingham Patch reported last week that Principal Smith was placed on administrative leave. It was noted in that report, that despite money in the school's budget, a vice principal was never hired for the elementary school during the current school year.

Earlier this month, Framingham Patch was the first media outlet to report about a problem administering the state-mandated MCAS tests at Stapleton.
