Nils Arthur James Olsen Graduates With Honors from West Point

As one of only 44 honor graduates from West Point, the Framingham High graduate received his diploma from the President of the United States.

Nils Arthur James Olsen, a member of the Framingham High class of 2010, graduated today, May 28, from United States Military Academy in West Point in New York.

As one of only 44 honor graduates from West Point, he received his diploma from President Barack Obama.

The President was the commencement speaker to the 1064 cadets who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy.

"Our military has no peer. The odds of a direct threat against us by any nation are low, and do not come close to the dangers we faced during the Cold War. Meanwhile, our economy remains the most dynamic on Earth, our businesses the most innovative. Each year, we grow more energy independent. From Europe to Asia, we are the hub of alliances unrivaled in the history of nations," said the President.

"Class of 2014, you have taken this time to prepare on the quiet banks of the Hudson. You leave this place to carry forward a legacy that no other military in human history can claim. You do so as part of a team that extends beyond your units or even our Armed Forces, for in the course of your service, you will work as a team with diplomats and development experts. You’ll get to know allies and train partners. And you will embody what it means for America to lead the world," said the President.
