School Committee Expected To Vote on 2014-15 Calendar Tonight

Framingham School Administration has proposed 2 school calendar options, but is leaning towards the one that keeps students in school until almost the end of June 2015.

The Framigham School Committee is expected to discuss, and vote on a school calendar for the 2014-15 school year. The meeting starts at 7:30 tonight in the King Administration Building.

Framingham Public School administration has two proposed school calendar options.

According to sources within the district, administration is now favoring option 1, which includes days off for Jewish and Christian holidays and a full February school vacation week.

Option 2, proposed students get out on June 10 (180th day) but only had a 3-day off for February instead of the typical 5-day break.

Both options call for the school year to start in August 2014.

  • Aug. 26: First day of school for Framingham High freshman
  • Aug. 27: First day of school for students in gfrades 1-12
  • Aug. 28: First day of school for kindergarten
  • Sept. 1: No school - Labor Day
The last day of school for option 1 is Wednesday, June 17 (180th day) and  Wednesday, June 24 (185th day).

School vacation weeks for Option 1 included:
  • Dec. 24 -Jan. 4: No school -  Holiday vacation
  • Feb. 16-20: No school - Presidents day & Winter vacation
  • April 20-24: No school - Patriots Day & Spring Vacation
Other highlights of Option 1 include:

Sept 24: No school - professional development day
Sept 25-26: No school - Rosh Hashanah
Oct. 30: Early release - entire school district
Nov. 4: No school - Election Day & Professional development
Jan. 30: No school - professional development
March 5: Early release entire school district
April 3: No school - Good Friday
May 21: Early release entire district

Option 1 also has early release days on Thursdays Oct. 2, 9, 16 and 30 for elementary school students and early releases for middle school students on Thursdays Oct. 2, 16, 30 and Dec. 4 in 2014.

There are elementary early release days on Thursdays Feb. 5, March 5, April 2, April 9, April 16, May 21 and June 4  and middle school early release days on Thursdays Feb. 5, March 5, April 2, May 21 and June 4 for middle school students.

Under Option 2, there is a no school day for Thursday, Sept 25 for the Jewish New Year, but school would be in session on Friday, Sept 26. 

Also in Option 2, students would return from the holiday break on Friday, Jan. 2 and in February students would have Presidents Day on Monday and a vacation day on Tuesday and Wednesday, but school is in session on Thursday and Friday.
