Walsh Theater Students Stage Holocaust Play for State Drama Festival

Theater students held a dress rehearsal Thursday for its entry in the Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival.

With a solemn look on her face, the lead actress in a Walsh Middle School play set during the Holocaust looks toward the audience during an aside as she wonders out loud if her family will be taken.

A dress rehearsal of I Never Saw Another Butterfly involving dozens of drama students helped actors, lighting and sound staff prepare their production for its entry in the 2013 Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival sponsored by the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild.

Walsh Middle will host a preliminary round of the festival this weekend. All three Framingham Public Middle Schools will have entries in the festival. Walsh and Cameron will compete at Walsh. Fuller Middle will compete at Dover-Sherborn Sunday.

Director of the play, Sheron Doucette, said the production is perfect for her students because of a talented cast and crew.

"It's a learning experience for me and for them," said Doucette. "I learn from being around them every day."
