Walsh's Once On This Island Nominated for 5 State Theatre Awards

Eighth grader Hannah Wade was also nominated for best lead actress for her role of Ti Moune in Walsh Middle School's production of Once on This Island in 2013.

Walsh Middle School was nominated for five musical theatre awards by the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild yesterday, May 22.

The Massachusetts Educational Theater Musical awards winners will be announced on June 9 in Boston.

For its production of Once On This Island, Walsh Middle School was nominated for:

  • Best Overall Production
  • Best Acting Ensemble
  • Best Dance Ensemble
  • Best Choral Ensemble

Eighth grader Hannah Wade was also nominated for best lead actress for her role of Ti Moune.

There were 63 participating companies and 308 actors nominated. Of those nominated 95 were named finalists in the middle and high school levels.

The Walsh musical was directed and produced by Sheron Doucette.

The musical Once on This Island tells the story of "Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death. "
