The Retreat at Twin Lakes: No retreat, No common sense

On February 26, 2012 at approximately 7:00pm Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman. We may disagree on what happened that night and on the verdict, however, I think we can all agree that this was a tragedy that could have been avoided.

This case was not about Stand Your Ground, Hoodies or "White" Hispanics . This case was about two people who failed to use common sense and failed to retreat.
Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman both failed to see the difference between actions that are Legal and actions that just aren't a good idea.

Many say that Trayvon had every right to approach Zimmerman. Legally, that is correct, however, was that a smart thing to do? Why not call 9-1-1? Why not run home? Maybe he saw an old, chubby "creepy ass cracker" and decided that he could take him in a fight. Had Zimmerman looked more like Mike Tyson and less like the Pillsbury Doughboy, would he had thought twice? Had he just retreated, he would still be alive.

Many say that Zimmerman had every right to call 9-1-1 on Trayvon, to follow him and to confront him. Legally, that is correct, but once again, was it a smart thing to do? Zimmerman was a"wanna-be cop" and it showed. A real cop would listen to the dispatcher, keep a safe distance, wait for back up before confronting Trayvon  in a dark area and would identify himself right away. Zimmerman knew he was carrying a gun, which gave him a false sense of security and common sense went out the window. Had he acted like a cop, their would be no need to shoot and kill.

In keeping with lack of common sense, the media instead of reporting the facts, decided to gin up racial motives, come up with a new ethnic group, the "white" Hispanic and to put profits before ethical journalism. The media, in spite of the facts and evidence, decided to stick to a false narrative to jack up ratings.

The State, not wanting to be "left behind", also abandoned common sense and placed politics and the constant media attention ahead of the law. They disregarded the investigation of the Sanford Police and the initial prosecutor's findings. They appointed a Special Prosecutor who skipped a Grand Jury and instead submitted to a Judge, an Affidavit, lacking in exculpatory details in  order to secure an indictment.

Finally, this case brought out the usual race-baiters who were more interested in lining their own pockets than seeking justice or coming up with solutions. Had this been a black on black crime, would the so called civil rights leaders been so outraged? Where were the press conferences, TV appearances and rallies for the 700 blacks killed in Chicago in 2012? Apparently they dont fit the false narrative of the white boogeyman jumping out of the bushes killing black children.

This case was a tragedy from beginning to end with no winners. Trayvon is dead and Zimmerman will be forever known as the guy who got away with murder.
Both Trayvon and Zimmerman followed the letter of the law until the final confrontation, unfortunately, neither used common sense in the end. That night, Violence met violence.

We will never know exactly what happened that night, however, the one thing we do know happened at The Retreat at Twin Lakes is that common sense was the first thing to retreat that night.
