Framingham Flyer Eric Mellusi won the Bay State Championship in both the shot put and the discus this week.

Mellusi, a senior captain on the boys track team, won the shot put with a throw of 47-feet and 10-inches, said Coach Chris Collins.

Mellusi won the discus field event with a throw of 151-feet, said Collins.

The Bay State League Conference Championship was held in Braintree on May 21.

Two sophomores had an outstanding meet.

Mike McDonald finished third in the mile with a personal best time of 4:27.34.

Sophomore Marc Umumbo finished in third in both the shot put and the discus field events. He threw 132 feet, 8 inches in the discus.

Other top performers for the Framingham High Flyers were:

Junior captain David Welch finished in fifth place in the triple jump with a leap of 40-feet, 3-inches. He missed qualifying for the state meet by two inches, said Collins.

Senior captain Emmanuel Kalamu, with a height of 6-feet, finished in fifth place in the high jump.

Senior captain Luke Halberstadt, with a time of 23.59 seconds, finished in 7th place in the 200 meters.

Matt Gramigna, another senior captain, finished in 7th place in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:02.79 minutes.

Junior Chris Elliott, at 11.91 seconds, finished in 8th pace in the 100-meter dash.

"The 4x100 relay had a great effort squandered by a hand off just inside the extended hand-off zone unfortunately," said Collins.
