Flyers Lose to Defending State Champs on the Track

Four Framingham High track & field athletes qualified for the state meet, despite the 105-35 loss to Newton North High at Bowditch Field Wednesday afternoon.

"The Flyer Boys got crushed today against the defending State Champs from Newton North 31-105 at Bowditch Field in Framingham," said Framingham High head coach Chris Colins.

"The Tigers ran well and the Flyers were a thin squad of veterans," said Collins, who added that a few Framingham boys qualified for the state meet and had personal best performances.

Qualifying for the state meet were:

  • Senior captain Luke Halberstadt finishing second in the 100-meter at 11 seconds.
  • Junior Tiago Torres with a time of 15.4 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. He took second place.
    Senior captain Emmanuel Kalamu at 16 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished third at the meet.
  • Eric Mellusi, in winning the shot put with a throw of 50-feet and 4-inches.




Other performances of note:

  • Welch won the triple jump with a leap of 37-feet, 4-inches
  • Junior Chris Elliott took second place in the 200-meter at 24.2 seconds
  • Senior captain Matt Gramigna finished in third place in the 400-meter hurdles.
  • Sophomore Mike McDonald finishe din second place in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:06.6 minutes.
  • Junior Andrew Harrod with a 4:53.9 minute mile earned third place.
  • Marc Umumbo finished in third in the shot put.
  • Sophomore Paul Halberstadt with a throw of 130'6" took second place in the javelin.
  • Kalamu leaped to 5'6" in the high jump for second place.
  • Junior Tristan Perez with a leap of 16'5" finished in third in the long jump.
