Framingham Baseball Team Wins Dracut Tournament

The Framingham 50/70 baseball team is now a perfect 11-0 on the season and resumes league play this week in the competitive Bay State Baseball League.

The 12-year old Framingham Flyer 50/70 baseball team defeated Dracut 9-3 in the Championship game Sunday to win the 3rd Annual Dracut Tournament.

Framingham secured the #1 seed in the tournament earlier in the day by beating Lowell 14-9, improving their pool play record to 4-0 before the championship game versus Dracut.

In the championship game, James Draughn and Tommy Clark combined to scatter five hits on the mound while striking out seven.

Offensively, Clark got the Flyers on the board in the bottom of the first with a 2-run home run after James Draughn led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a Nick Seeto single. Seeto then stole second, when Clark followed with his 2-run blast. Dracut pulled within one run with back-to-back home runs in the top of the second.

Framingham then tacked on another run in the bottom of the second when, with two outs, Andrew Keane walked and stole second and James Draughn then drove him in with a bloop single just out of the reach of the Dracut infielder.

Framingham got another insurance run in the fifth inning when Jonah Cahill Farella laced a single to center and Sam Whiting followed with a perfect sacrifice bunt.  After another walk to Andrew Keane and another stolen base, James Draughn brought home Cahill Farella with a sacrifice fly, making the score 9-3.

The 50/70 baseball team is now a perfect 11-0 on the season and resumes league play this week in the competitive Bay State Baseball League.

The team will play Wakefield Wednesday, July 23 at 5:45 p.m. on the Fuller Middle diamond. And Thursday, the team hosts Haverhill at 5:45 p.m.

Then, they hit the road on Friday to take on  Arlington.
