Got World Cup Fever? USA vs Portugal Sunday Night

Many Framingham establishments will be hosting viewing parties today for the World Cup soccer match, including the British Beer Company on Route 9 and Tropical Cafe on Hollis Street.

The USA World Cup soccer team will play Portugal tonight at 6.

If the United States pulls off the upset and defeats Portugal, it would means a second-place finish in Group G and a spot in the second round of 16, after Ghana-Germany tied 2-2 in its match on Saturday.

If the U.S. team loses, it must win against Germany on June 26 at noon to qualify.

But just like NFL playoffs, the World Cup soccer tournament has a complicated system to make the next round too.

If the U.S. manages only a tie today, it could still advance in the 2014 World Cup. If the U.S. squad ties each of its next two matches, it will advance. If it wins today and manages a tie against Germany, the Americans will win their group.
