Marian's Baseball, Softball Teams Playoff Bound

Both the Marian baseball team and softball team have gaudy records and will be highly seeded this week as the state tournament pairings are announced today.

Marian High’s baseball and softball teams will both be playing in the post season but Keefe Tech's season is finished.

BASEBALL: Marian wins 15th game

Marian ended the season the same way it started with a convincing win over cross-town rival Keefe Tech. The Mustangs beat Keefe Tech 10-6 on Thursday to finish the season at 15-5.

With 15 wins in 20 games, Marian is anticipating a fairly high seed. The seedings will be announced today, May 31 and first round play starts on Thursday.

Against Keefe Tech, Marian’s Derek Frasca and James Feliciano each had two hits. Alex Holt pitched five innings and recorded six strikeouts.

Charlie Durkin pitched a two-hitter and went the distance for his fourth win in Marian’s 8-0 victory over Catholic Central Small rival Pope John XXIII.

Frasca had two hits and scored three runs and Joe Garbarino had three hits.

Keefe Tech picks up second win

Keefe Tech defeated Worcester North, 8-5, for the Broncos’ second win of the year. Danny Jimenez had three hits, three RBI and scored four runs for Keefe Tech. AJ Burgos added two hits, three RBI and two stolen bases for the 2-11 Broncos.

Earlier last week, Keefe Tech lost to Assabet Valley, 13-1.

SOFTBALL: Marian scores four victories

Marian’s softballers let everyone know they are ready for state tournament play by recording four victories last week. The Mustangs, who sport a 15-4 record, find out where and who they will be playing when the state tourney seedings are announced today, May 31.

Marian ended the regular season with a convincing 14-4 win over Lowell Catholic. Kelly May pitched the complete game and only allowed two earned runs on six hits. She struck out two in the Catholic Central Small contest.

Katie Rufo had three hits and four RBI while Alyssa Crowley had two hits, three RBI and scored three runs. Kat Finnegan had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Marian finishes 12-0 in the league.

Marian topped Austin Prep, 8-1, as Rufo pitched a six-hitter and slammed a triple and drove in three RBI. Finnegan, Crowley and Kristen Archambault each had two hits for Marian.

Rufo began her week by pitching a four-hitter in a 6-4 win over Matignon. Rufo also had three hits, while walking six and striking out three. Crowley smacked two doubles and picked up two RBI and Alex Fantasia had two hits.

Last Sunday, Marian beat Pope John, 4-2. May struck out 12 and allowed only six-hits. Devan Rabidou had three hits, including two triples, and Finnegan had two hits and two RBI.

LACROSSE: Marian tops Matignon for sixth win

Paul Walter had five goals and three assists to lead Marian to a 14-10 win over Matignon in Catholic Central League action last week. Zaven Babolozian added four goals and two assists. Marian finished the year 6-10 overall, 4-6 in the league.
