Primer to the Boston Marathon for Framingham Spectators

Route 135 will will be closed to traffic Monday starting at 8:30 a.m. and is not scheduled to re-open until about 3:30 p.m.

Today, April 21st is the 118th running of the Boston Marathon.

Road Closure: Route 135, Waverly Street in Framingham will be closed to vehicles from 8:30 a.m. until about 3:30 p.m. Please plan your travel arrangements accordingly. 


Runners: There are more runners this year. Bib numbers are color coded.

  • Red bibs (numbers 101 - 8,999) are assigned to Wave 1 (10 a.m.)
  • White bibs (numbers 9,000 to 17,999) are Wave 2 (10:25 a.m.)
  • Blue bibs (numbers 18,000 to 26,999) are Wave 3 (11 a.m.)
  • Yellow bibs (numbers 27,000+) are Wave 4 (11:25 a.m.)


Spectators: Along the race course in Framingham, please cheer on the runners but Framingham Police are encouraging you do not bring backpacks, coolers, etc.

Spectators are encouraged to report any unattended or suspicious packages or any suspicious activity to law enforcement officers or race officials. “IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!”  

Close to 100 police will be along the route in Framingham alone, including the new police substation in Little Tripoli, across from La Cantina Restaurant, just past mile marker 5.

Note: Additional guidelines for spectators will be enforced in Boston. See attached photo by the Massachusetts State Police.

Parking restrictions: Parking on Waverly Street (Route 135) will be prohibited until Monday at 4 p.m.
