Westfield State Defeats Framingham State in Volleyball 3-1

The Rams (23-6, 5-1 in the Conference) saw their 11-game MASCAC winning streak snapped by the Owls

The Westfield State University volleyball team secured the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season Title with a 3-1 victory on the road Saturday morning over the Framingham State University Rams at Framingham’s Athletic Center. 

The game was a match-up of Conference unbeaten teams for the regular season crown as both squads entered the game with a 5-0 mark in the conference.  

With the win, the Westfield Owls (17-14, 6-0 MASCAC) are the 2013 MASCAC Volleyball Regular Season Champions and will be the top seed in next week’s Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament.

The Rams (23-6, 5-1 in the Conference) saw their 11-game MASCAC winning streak snapped by the Owls and will meet the winner of the 4/5 quarterfinal match in the other semifinal next Saturday. 

The Owls took the first game 25-19, but the Rams answered easily taking the second 25-10.  Westfield State regrouped and took the final two sets 25-22 to secure the four set victory and knock off the defending Conference champion Rams.
