Women’s Soccer Cruises to 4-1 Victory over Rhode Island College

Framingham's Isabel DeSouza scored a goal and had an assist in the win.

The Framingham State University women’s soccer team received a goal and an assist apiece from senior Kayla Austin and junior Isabel DeSouza as the Rams defeated Rhode Island College 4-1 in non-conference women’s soccer action Tuesday afternoon at the Maple Street Field in Framingham.

With the win the Rams improve to 5-1-1 on the year.

Framingham State’s offense came out firing on all cylinders with three scoring chances in the game’s opening 15 minutes.

Just five minutes into the game, junior Isabela DeSouza from Framingham took a through ball and was one on one with the RIC goal keeper, but her bid rolled just wide of the net.  Three minutes later Parent and senior Cara Murtagh  worked a give and go, but an offsides call waved off a goal.

The Rams finally broke into the scoring column in the 20th minute of action as DeSouze received a pass from Austin and fired a shot on net. DeSouza’s bid ricocheted off the RIC net minder right to Parent who tapped it home for the 1-0 lead.

The game would remain 1-0 in favor of Framingham State until the final minute of the half as Austin fired a shot at goal that deflected off the RIC keeper’s hands and into the net for what would prove to be the game winner.

Freshman Allisa Georgio (W. Greenwich, RI) picked up the assist on the Austin marker.

The Rams tacked on to their lead in the 51st minute as senior Taylor Ezold scored off a Murtagh assist for the three nil advantage.  The Rams had a chance to push the lead to four just two minutes later, but Parent’s penalty kick was stopped by RIC net minder Audrey Maia.

Rhode Island College broke up the shutout in the 62nd minute of action.  Junior Lauren Maisano found the back of the net with a free kick from 25 yards out after a Rams foul.

The Rams would add a final goal by DeSouza in the 81st minute off an Austin assist to reach the final margin.

Framingham State held a 32-7 edge in shots for the game and a 6-1 lead in corners.  Junior Lauren Hoole made three saves and recorded the victory for the Rams.
