Women's Soccer Player and Coach of the Year Honors Goes to Framingham State

Framingham State University senior midfielder Kayla Austin of Winchester has been selected as the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Year.

Framingham State University head coach Tucker Reynolds, in his 9th year, has been selected the MASCAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year.

And three Framingham State University Rams have been selected to the All-MASCAC first team in voting conducted by the league’s eight coaches. 

Joining Austin on the All-MASCAC women’s soccer first team are junior forward Marisa Parent and senior back Taylor Ezold.

Reynolds is honored by his peers as Coach of the Year for the second time during his nine year tenure as he previously received the honor in 2006.  Reynolds guided the Rams to a 13-1-1 overall record and 6-0-1 mark in the Conference. Under Reynolds direction, the Rams captured the 2013 MASCAC Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2003.

Austin lands on the All-MASCAC teams for the third time in her three seasons with the Rams as she was a first team selection in 2011 and a second team selection a year ago.  Austin had an outstanding senior season ranking among the national leaders in assists and assists per game as she accumulated 13 goals and 13 assists on the year for 39 points.  Austin was the only soccer player in the MASCAC, men’s or women’s, to be selected to the Capital One Co-SIDA Academic All-District Team as she played a role in 47% of the Rams 55 goals during the regular season including tallying four game winners.

Parent earns her second first team All-MASCAC honors after leading the Rams in scoring in 2013.  Parent tallied a MASCAC leading 18 goals with four assists for 40 points.  Parent grabbed two MASCAC Player of the Week honors during the campaign as she tallied five game-winning goals. 

Ezold, an All-MASCAC performer during her four seasons of softball with the Rams, receives her first all-conference nod for soccer after an outstanding senior season.  Ezold recorded a pair of goals and was a key component of the Rams defense that surrendered a conference-best 14 goals in 15 games with 0.91 goals against average. 

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
