A group of Framingham teenagers have formed a Relay for Life team in honor of their friend,
The “Mike’s Militia” team, comprised of 16 of Mike’s friends and their chaperones, will walk all night as part of the Maynard Relay for Life event.
Beginning last night, June 22 at 6, the teen will walk until 10 a.m. today, June 23 to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.
So far, the team has raised over $2,500, and they are still accepting donations on their Relay for Life web site (event: Maynard; team name: Mike’s Militia).
Team captain Ian Gonzalez, 14, said “Mike taught everyone to fight back, and that’s exactly what we intend on doing. We’ll use Mike’s strong spirit to make it through the night.”
He is greatly missed but remembered by his friends for his quick wit, mischievous spirit and love of life.
He was buried with U.S. Navy Seal honors, in recognition of his dream of joining the force and his inspiring grit and determination throughout his battle with cancer.
