United Way Re-Introduces Mental Health/Suicide Prevention Phone Line

The new program will be called "Call2Talk" and will operate 24/7 and is working toward being accredited by the National Lifeline Network.

The United Way of Tri-County, headquartered in Framingham, announced
Wednesday it will be re-instituting the mental health/suicide prevention phone line formerly operated by Samaritans.

The Boston-based organization ceased operation in it’s Metrowest facility several months ago for financial reasons, according to published media reports.

“All of us at the United Way are happy to welcome Eileen Davis and her many highly trained volunteers to our United Way family," said Paul Mina, President & Chief Professional Officer of the United Way of Tri-County. "The
MetroWest Region needs this program to assist individuals and families through difficult and stressful  times in their lives including the despondent and those who may be suicidal.”

The program previously served an average of 50,000 calls annually.

The new program will be called “Call2Talk” and will operate 24/7 and is working toward being accredited by the National Lifeline Network.

“I am thrilled to be able to join the United Way of Tri-County family as we work together to close the gap in services that currently exists in MetroWest,” said Eileen Davis, Mental Health Line Program Director. "Our dedicated volunteers look forward to once again providing a much needed service to those in our local community. Call2Talk will serve those who are struggling and looking for
someone to talk with in confidence. I applaud the UWTC for acting quickly and filling the this void in service.”

Mina said donations are needed to get the program up and running. Those interested in helping can do so by sending a check to the United Way of Tri-County, 46 Park St. Framingham 01702 and put Call2Talk on the memo line or log on to our web-site at www.uwotc.org and give on-line.
