Monday Essentials: Girl Scouts Registration and Sword Demonstration

It's Monday, and that means Framingham Patch has put together this list of things going on in Framingham to help make your week a little easier and more fun.

1. Girl Scout Registration

Last year, more than 500 Framingham girls, in grades K-12, participated in Girl Scouts.

There is a registration event tonight for girls new to scouting at 7 at the main Framingham Library in the Costin Room. For additional information click here.

Registered Girl Scouts can participate in Troop events, Framingham events and state-wide events sponsored by Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.

2.  Reception for Outgoing Police Chief

Framingham Police Chief Steven Carl is leaving Framingham to become the director of public safety and chief of police at Assumption College

Tuesday night, there will be a reception for the Chief at the Memorial Building from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Carl has been chief in Framingham for the last 12 years.

3. Final Framingham Downtown Farmers' Market

Tuesday will be the final Farmers market at the downtown Framingham Common. The market will be open from noon to 5:30 p.m. There is free parking at the TD Bank lot at 1 Park St.

4. Swords Through The Ages Party

The main Framingham Library is hosting its end-of-the-summer reading party for teens on Wednesday, Sept 25. The party will feature an amazing sword presentation by Jeff Goodhind and Jeff Lord from the Association for Renaissance and Medieval Swordsmanship. They will demonstrate the art of Western European swordsmanship over the centuries.

After the show, the grand prize drawing for the Kindle Fire and other prizes from the pile of 10-hour reading slips submitted to the Library throughout the summer will be held.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
