Raise the Roof event to help family battling cancer, students art auction, James and The Giant Peach performance, Materialize show ends this weekend and Garden Club's annual spring sale all featured in today's column.

There is a Raise the Roof event scheduled today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help Kris Burke and her family. Burke, a Framingham resident, is battling stage 4 cancer. Friends and family have raised money to make repairs on her home. The first project is complete. Rexford Kidd of Capital Contractors repaired the family's front steps, and donated a portion of the labor and materials. Now, today, workers are fixing the roof on the family's home. Framingham High Graduate Dies in Tragic Climbing Fall

The 1993 graduate of Framingham High died while climbing down Snow Creek Wall said the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

 Amy R. Stein of British Columbia, a 1993 graduate of Framingham High School, died Tuesday, May 14 in a tragic climbing fall. Stein, 37, was walking down from the Snow Creek Wall with other members of a climbing party when she jumped out of the path of falling rock and fell to her death, report the Seattle PI. Stein and four other rock climbers had descended the Orbit route on the Snow Creek Wall Tuesday afternoon, and were hiking down from the base when a large rock broke free above Stein, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said. She was in a narrow ravine, and moved to avoid the rock, stepping off the ledge and accidentally falling 70 to 100 feet, said the Sheriff's office. MassBay College, Framingham Agree To 2-Year Lease Extension

Mass Bay Community College and Framingham have agreed to a 2-year lease extension for the college to use the former Farley School building Framingham Patch has learned.

UPDATED: 11 a.m. School Committee releasedits agenda and will vote onthe 2-year lease Monday night *** Framingham Patch has learned that MassBay Community College and Framingham has agreed, in terms, to a 2-year lease extension for the college to use the former Farley School building on Flagg Drive, next to Fuller Middle School and across from McCarthy Elementary School. Framingham School Committee is expected to approve a 2-year lease extension agreement, negotiated behind closed doors, for the college at its meeting on Monday night. Terms of the lease will not be released until after the vote. The college's original lease ends in August 2013. Don Taggart Wants to be Appointed to 1-Year School Seat

Taggart: "Working on the School Committee, to me, is about helping the town's educational program move forward in a positive direction while listening to the interests, hopes, and worries of the town, the school administration and the school employees."

Flyers Softball Team Remains in First Place with 15th Victory

With a win over rival Newton North, the Framingham High girls softball team improved their record to 15-2, and remain in first place in the Bay State Conference with 3 games remaining in the season.

Written by Erin Powers On a day dedicated to honoring the seniors, the Framingham High softball team took a key step in its quest for the Bay State Conference title with a win over visiting Carey Division rival Newton North.  The Tigers took a one-run lead into the sixth inning when the Flyers’s bats came alive.  Senior catcher Gia Ferreira (3 for 3) ignited the Flyers’s offense,  hitting  a 1-out double.  Junior Cassie McKinnon, running for Ferreira, moved to third on a fielder’s choice hit by junior second-baseman Leslie Ferreira.  With runners on the corners, junior pitcher Jess Proia worked through a several pitch at bat before rocketing a triple to centerfield, scoring McKinnon and Ferreira. SLIDESHOW: Freshmen Flyers Defeat Milton and Braintree

Solid pitching and timely hits secured the two victories for the Flyers.

Last Thursday, the Framingham High School freshman baseball team defeated Milton 4-2, behind a solid, 7-inning pitching effort by Nick Benoit and the timely hitting by Chris Grome & Jamie Brigham. Also last week, the Framingham High freshman baseball team defeated Braintree 5-4. AJ Tunno started the game on the mound but had to be removed after the first inning due to a back strain. Lefty Evan Pasewark, then righty Jeff Oberg took over on the hill. Offense came from Cam Klein, Christian Seariac and Brigham. Police: Man Reported Near School Was Not a Registered Sex Offender

Framingham Police said the man reported by Hemenway PTO parents and mentioned in an alert by the school principal has been confirmed as not a registered sex offender.

Framingham Police said the man reported by parents and mentioned in an alert by a school principal has been confirmed as not a registered sex offender, said Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini. The Framingham Police school resource officer McGrath and the Police Safety Division, through an investigation, have confirmed that the individual seen yesterday on the bench by the PTO member was mistakenly identified and is not the registered sex offender from Framingham’s register sex offender list, said Brandolini. Police have confirmed that the individual has no criminal history, said Brandolini. Police investigated and determined that the property in question, where the benches are located are on Heritage House, which is private property and …

What concerns me is that according to police/schools, if he were a registered sex offender, he would be within his legal rights to sit on the bench. That makes no sense at all.   more ›

UPDATED: Principal: Report of Registered Sex Offender Near School, Bus Stop

One of Framingham's elementary school principals sent out an alert to parents that there was a report of a registered sex offender near the school.

Updated: With information from Framingham Police *** Hemenway Elementary School Principal Lucia Laguarda sent out an alert to parents this afternoon that there was a report of an "individual that was suspected of being a registered sex offender waiting at the bench located between the Heritage House and Hemenway School." The principal told parents that the "location is a public bus stop and it is within the legal distance of the school, if in fact it is this individual." The K-5 elementary school principal told parents in her alert she has asked the Framingham Police safety officers to follow up with school administration on the report. Framingham Police Lt.
