24 Students, 17 Staff and a Literacy Program: You Are Special!

Sixteen Framingham Public School staffers and the Wilson Elementary literacy program were presented with "You Are Special" awards.

Two dozen Framingham High students from the class of 2012 were among the honorees at the the 20th Annual Salute to Framingham Thursday night. Framingham High principal Michael Welch told the more than 500 people in attendance that it was hard to "narrow it to just 24" students. Honored were: Nichanan Agrasuta, Nathan Alvord, Matthew Bell, Parmeet Bhullar, Sophia DeAraujo, Renan De Oliveira, Donald Goff, Katherine Grindeland, Matt Hugo, Rachel Hulsman, Mia Lin, Adam Magier, Nrendan Moran, Courtney Mryglot, Shamira Nambafu, Hoang Nguyen, Parth Patel, Emma Sales, Patricia Salmeron, Selena Santiago, Tahleen Seifel, Mackenzie Shay, Jennifer Wagner and Jonathan West. Framingham Honors Mark and Karen Curtis, Dave Gudejko

More than 500 people honored three individuals who selflessly give of their time to the youth of their community at the 20th Annual Salute to Framingham.

In 1989, Mark and Karen Curtis were celebrating Thanksgiving with friends at the Dugout in Framingham and decided to invite some tenants of the boarding house upstairs to join them. Two year later, the Curtis' decided to put up signs inviting people to join them for a free hot Thanksgiving meal. In November, the Curtis Family Thanksgiving provided almost 1,700 people with a free hot Thanksgiving dinner. For their commitment to the community and for encouraging local businesses, community organizations and youth groups to volunteer their time to the event, the husband and wife were honored at the 20th Annual Salute to Framingham Thursday night. New Framingham School Leader Attends 20th Annual Salute

Framingham's new superintendent of schools Stacy Scott attended his first big event in town - the 20th Annual Salute to Framingham.

Framingham's new superintendent of schools Stacy Scott talked with school and community leaders and met with teachers and staff at Thursday night's 20th Annual Salute to Framingham. He also heard about the exceptional students and special staff in the Framingham Public School system. Scott, who is the Dracut Superintendent of Schools, was hired unanimously by the School Committee earlier this year. He will start July 1 at a salary of $200,000. Salute to Framingham Announces "You Are Special" Recipients

Sixteen individuals and a literacy program at an elementary school will be honored this year.

The 20th Annual Salute to Framingham will honor Mark & Karen Curtis and David Gudejko for their outstanding commitment and service to the youth of Framingham.   besides the three honorees, the Salute program annually recognizes Framingham teachers and staff who go the extra mile to make each day "special" in our public schools. These teachers and staff are given a "You Are Special" designation and are publicly recognized as part of the Salute to Framingham. 20th Annual Salute to Framingham scheduled for Thursday, March 22.

In 1992, the Salute to Framingham was created to honor individuals for their outstanding commitment and service to Framingham’s youth. These honorees join a select group of people who have made a real difference in the lives of the children of Framingham. On Thursday, March 22, the 20th Annual Salute to Framingham will honor Mark and Karen Curtis and Dave Gudejko. Since 1989, Mark and Karen Curtis have been sponsoring a free Thanksgiving Day dinner for those in need. With the help of volunteers, Mark and Karen Curtis have prepared and served traditional Thanksgiving meals to thousands of needy families for more than two decades. In March 2012, Salute to Framingham will celebrate 20 years of honoring individuals for their outstanding commitment and service to Framingham’s youth; nominations due Dec. 10.

Do you know someone who should be publicly recognized for all that they have done for Framingham’s youth? In March 2012, Salute to Framingham will celebrate 20 years of honoring individuals for their outstanding commitment and service to Framingham’s youth.  The committee is looking for nominations for 2012 Salute to Framingham honorees.   Please consider nominating someone from any sector of the community, who has in some way made a difference in the lives of the youth of Framingham.   Nomination forms are available online at www.salute-to-framingham.com.
