Election 2012

Sannicandro Easily Wins Re-Election

State Rep. Tom Sannicandro won all six of the Framingham precincts in the 7th Middlesex District plus the community of Ashland to win re-election.

State Rep. Tom Sannicandro (D-Ashland) won all six of the Framingham precincts in the 7th Middlesex District and every precinct in Ashland to defeat his Republican challenger Jon Fetherston. Framingham Patch first reported the win Tuesday night before 9:30. Fetherston, the former chair of the Ashland Board of Selectmen, didn't even reach 100 votes in two of the six precincts in Framingham. Framingham results are unofficial, as the Framingham Town Clerk's office has some issues with some machines at the polling places, due to thickness and width of the ballots. Because of those issues the Town Clerk's office was hand counting and will continue to hand count this morning. Unofficially in Framingham Precinct 8: Sannicandro 1,268; Fetherston …

LETTER: Framingham Taxpayers' Association Endorses Fetherston

Framingham Taxpayers' Association: "Jon Fetherston will better serve the interests of the taxpayers and the economy."

The Framingham Taxpayers’ Association (“FTPA”) has endorsed Jon A. Fetherston in his election bid for state representative from the 7th Middlesex District. The district is comprised of Ashland and parts of Framingham. The FTPA is a non-partisan group of Framingham taxpayers dedicated to cost-effective fiscally responsible government. Enzo Rotatori, chairman of the FTPA, said the group endorsed Fetherston, because of his success in holding the line on increased taxes while serving on the Ashland Board of Selectmen and his availability to the people of Framingham and Ashland. “Taxpayers need people like Jon Fetherston in the state legislature to protect taxpayers and fight for fiscal responsible state government. While on the Board of …

VIDEO: Sannicandro, Fetherston Talk Issues In Race's Only Forum

State Rep. Tom Sannicandro (D-Ashland) is being challenged for his seat by former Ashland Board of Selectmen Jon Fetherston, a Republican; the seat represents the Ashland and 6 precincts in Framingham.

In what is likely to be the only meeting of the two candidates for the 7th Middlesex District, State Rep. Tom Sannicandro (D-Ashland) and former Ashland Board of Selectmen Jon Fetherston, a Republican, discussed their views at a forum, sponsored by the Framingham Coalition, at Wilson Elementary School Wednesday night. The 7th Middlesex District consists of the Town of Ashland and precincts 8, 13, 14, 16, 17 and 18 in Framingham. Framingham has three state representatives. Audience members were asked to put questions for the candidates on index cards and place them in a basket. Coalition members then sorted the questions and decided which ones to ask the two Ashland residents and candidates. More than half of the questions focused on …

LETTER: Citizens For Limited Taxation Endorse Fetherston

Citizens for Limited Taxation is endorsing Jon Fetherston for state representative in the 7th Middlesex District over incumbent Tom Sannicandro.

Submitted by the Committee to Elect Jon Fetherston: Jon A. Fetherston has won the endorsement of Citizens For Limited Taxation’s 2½ Political Action Committee, in his election bid for state representative from the 7th Middlesex District. Editor's Note: The district represents Ashland and 6 of Framingham's 18 precincts. CLT’S 2 ½ PAC, the political arm of Citizens for Limited Taxation, was originally created to support candidates who would defend Proposition 2 ½ in the State Legislature. It now endorses candidates who support taxpayers on a variety of issues, and uses the CLT Legislative rating to identify pro-taxpayer legislators. Francis J. Faulkner, executive director of the PAC, said the group endorsed Fetherston based on his strong …

I support Jon Fetherston for State Representative. The reason I support Jon, is that he is remarkable in the principals, I believe in. Being endorsed for Citizens for Limited Taxation should send a clear message to residents of Ashland and six (6) of Framingham’s precincts to vote for Jon. Please take note that the incumbent was not endorsed by this “Watch Dog Group” for limited taxation. The …   more ›

LETTER: Candidate Chooses To Avoid Discussing His Own Record

Shulman: "The sponsors of a debate cannot be considered non-partisan while actively supporting one of the candidates with their time and their money."

It seems to me that candidates who focus incessantly on manufactured issues about their opponent also choose to avoid discussing their own record and affiliations. We see that in other campaigns up and down the ballot, but we have a striking example of this deflection technique right here in the 7th Middlesex House District (Ashland and part of Framingham). The non-partisan Framingham Coalition/Community Connections, which annually sponsors Candidates Nights, is hosting such a forum for State Rep. Tom Sannicandro and Republican challenger Jon Fetherston. Voters are invited to meet the candidates in person and hear their views, Wednesday, Oct. 24, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Wilson Elementary School. Access Framingham coverage is planned. On the …

Fetherston Campaign Launches Video Ad Campaign

Jon Fetherston, an Ashland Republican challenging an incumbent Democrat for the 7th Middlesex District state representative seat has launched a video ad.

Jon Fetherston, a Republican challenging incumbent Democrat Tom Sannicandro for the 7th Middlesex District state representative seat, has launched a video ad. The ad features Fetherston, but also has endorsements from Framingham residents Mary Z. Connaughton, who ran for state auditor, Janet Leombruno, Enzo Rotatori and Jack Prindiville. The 7th Middlesex County district includes Ashland and 6 of Framingham's 18 precincts. Both Fetherston and Sannicandro live in Ashland. The election is less than 30 days away on Nov. 6. Sannicandro has agreed to just one debate between the two candidates. Fetherston had suggested three debates. The lone debate is scheduled for Oct. 24 at Wilson Elementary School. It is sponsored by the Framingham Coalition…

Fetherston: Sannicandro Is Dragging His Feet on Debating

The Committee To Elect Jon Fetherston says state Rep. Tom Sannicandro, who represents Ashland and six precincts in Framingham, has yet to agree to a debate.

Press Release from Committee to Elect Jon Fetherston: On Sept. 30, Jon Fetherston, candidate for state representative, announced he has accepted two invitations from community groups to debate the incumbent State Rep. Tom Sannicandro and will accept more. “I will debate the issues with Tom Sannicandro any time, any place. In these critical times, the people of Ashland and Framingham deserve all of our time and attention," Fetherston said. Unfortunately, Sannicandro refuses to respond to community requests about debates. Enzo Rotatori, President of the Framingham Taxpayers Association, has spoken to a representative of Sannicandro’s campaign and sent several emails to the campaign. Sannicandro refuses to respond to the Framingham based …

Fetherston Campaign Signs Stolen ... Again

The Committee to Elect Jon Fetherston to the 7th Middlesex District Representative seat said more than 20 signs, at $8.54 each, were stolen this month; signs were stolen last month too.

Another 21 Jon Fetherston signs for state representative have been stolen this week. The signs were stolen in Ashland. Fetherston, who lives in Ashland, is a Republican challenger to State Rep. Tom Sannicandro, who also lives in Ashland. The 7th Middlesex District seat represents Ashland and six precincts in Framingham. This is the second time a large amount of Fetherstone signs have gone missing. After the news coverage in early August, the thievery came close to a full halt. However, this was only a reprieve as some areas of Ashland have lost signs almost as quickly as they have been replaced, said Terry Hendrix, campaign manager for Jon Fetherston and a member of the Ashland Republican Committee. Hendrix said the Committee does not know…

Republicans Campaign For Fetherston in Framingham

The Massachusetts Republican Party opened one of its 10 offices in Framingham, giving support to former Ashland Selectmen Chair Jon Fetherston's campaign to win a state representative seat.

The Massachusetts Republican Party established a "Massachusetts Victory 2012" office in Framingham, one of 10 offices across the Commonwealth. Wednesday night, Jon Fetherston held an event at the office. Fetherston, a former chair of the Ashland Board of Selectmen, is seeking to unseat Tom Sannicandro as state representative for the 7th Middlesex District. The district represents Ashland and six precincts in Framingham. Located at 1671 Worcester Rd, Suite 300, the office provides the Fetherston campaign with  dedicated offices, use of the call center, use of volunteers, and other resources to defeat his Democratic opponent in November. Fetherston, a resident of Ashland, is married with two teenage sons. As state representative Fetherston …

Good luck with that....any Republican running for any office in this town has an uphill battle especially in a town that votes Democratic by default. They could get a monkey to run and it would get more votes than a Republican. Democrats vote by the party not by the qualifications of the person , and they seem good with that, and we wonder why the town is the way it is. Jim@ccfiile.com   more ›
