Press release from the Framingham Parks and Recreation: Town of Framingham would like to thank the community for attending the 10th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony of those who lost their lives in the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, including the 17 people with ties to Framingham. Sunday's event included solemn remarks, a reading of the names on the memorial, prayer offerings, and a presentation of the colors by the Framingham Fire and Police Department Color and Honor Guards. Nearly 3,000 American flags were placed on the lawn to represent each person who lost their life on this tragic day. Selectman Charlie Sisitsky gave his reflections, Selectmen Dennis Giombetti and Ginger Esty read the names of the 17 individuals with ties to Framingham who died that day. Rev. Framingham Police and Fire honored the victims of Sept. 11 with a vigil Sunday morning in Cushing Memorial Park, near the Framingham 9/11 Memorial to honor the 17 individuals with ties to framingham who perished that day. The vigil began at 7:58 a.m., the time the first plane took off from Logan Airport. The color and honor guards will take 20-minute shifts standing vigil until 10:28 a.m., the time when the second tower of the World Trade Center fell. At critical points, the Fire and Police color guards marked the events of Sept. 11: the times the twin towers were hit, the time the third plane hit the Pentagon, and the time the fourth plane went down in Pennsylvania. Karin Charles, who now lives in Framingham with her husband Dennis Charles, spoke for the first time this week about losing her first husband Kenneth Zelman, was among the 2,753 people killed in the World Trade Centre on Sept. 11, 2001.
