A District Court judge ordered the Framingham man held on $20,000 cash bail; there is also an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer on him.
A Framingham man was arraigned Monday on animal abuse charges after allegedly killing his dog and disposing of it in a Dumpster, said Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone. Douglas A. Coelho, 27, Beaver Street, Framingham, was arrested Friday night by Framingham Police. “This defendant is alleged to have inflicted extreme cruelty to a helpless animal by striking his own dog, torturing and killing the dog, and then disposing of her in a Dumpster,” Leone said in a press release. “This behavior demonstrates a disturbing and very concerning disregard for life.” Framingham District Court Judge Douglas Stoddart ordered the defendant held on $20,000 cash bail with the condition that he have no contact with domesticated animals. A Framingham man was arrested over the weekend and charged with animal cruelty.
A Framingham man was arrested Friday night and charged with animal cruelty after he killed his dog, said police. Douglas A. Coelho, 27, of 126 Beaver St. was to be arraigned in court today, Jan. 7. There also is an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer on him, said Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini. The dog, a black Terrier-type, weighing just 7.5 pounds was found dead in a dumpster, by Coelho's roommate. He then called police. Let Patch save you time. As Saturday's Kentucky Derby approaches, some activists are claiming horse racing is cruel to animals.
Two horses were euthanized after falling in the Grand National, a 4-mile steeplechase horse race in England, just over two weeks ago. The Kentucky Derby will bring dozens of horses to compete on a world-famous stage on Saturday, one that sometimes claims the lives of the animals who compete. An article in The National recently detailed some of what they call "the darker picture behind the glamor of horse racing." "Some 3,600 horses died from 2009 to 2011 while racing or training in the US, according to a New York Times data study. This generalizations about people are very dangerous. I'm Brazilian too, my entire family is in Brazil, and those in my family that have animals really appreciate and take a good care of them.
