Proposed Anti-Bullying Policy To Bring Consistency and Documentation to Schools

Parents can provide input to the Framingham Schools proposed anti-bullying policy at a hearing on Thursday, Dec. 16 at Framingham High.

The proposed anti-bullying plan for the Framingham Public Schools went through another review last night, when the plan was presented  to the School Committee." We are in the last stages of the anti-bullying plan," said Superintendent Dr. Steven Hiersche. A public hearing, where parents can provide input, is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. at Framingham High School. Interpreters will be available. With the passage of a state law earlier this spring, the Framingham Public Schools  has been working on three different aspects of the law: a bullying and intervention plan, an elementary anti-bullying guide, and a secondary anti-bullying information sheet. Framingham Schools Work To Finalize Anti-Bullying Policy by Dec. 31 Deadline

The Superintendent said age-appropriate brochures will be sent home with students next month.

School officials are hammering out the final details of a district-wide anti-bullying policy required by recent state legislation and will present the changes in December, said Superintendent Dr. Steven Hiersche at a School Committee meeting. Passed by the State in May, the new law requires school districts state-wide to implement new strategies to target bullying in all schools. As of Dec. 31, school districts must have their policies and interventions in place. "It's really about definitions," said Hiersche. "The definitions [of what constitutes bullying] really need to be clear."
