“Deus ouviu minhas preces. Minha filha merece ter um futuro melhor. Graças a Deus esse dia chegou.” Em Sherborn, Paulo Pereira, um técnico de …

Brazilian Leader Wants to Strengthen Education, Commerce Ties with Bay State

Dilma Rousseff, in her first visit to the United States since becoming President of Brazil, did not make a stop in Framingham, but besides visiting the State House and the Governor, delivered a speech Tuesday night at Harvard University.

Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff continued her historic first trip to the United States Tuesday, stopping in Massachusetts. The first woman to become president of Brazil was greeted by Governor Deval Patrick, as dozens of migrant families waved the green-and-yellow-Brazilian flag along Beacon Street, and students, from Somerville, sang Brazil’s national anthem. On Monday, Rousseff met with President Barack Obama. Tuesday, in Boston, she continued her Brazil and U.S. cooperation agenda meeting at the State House with Patrick and making a visit to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the morning and Harvard University in the evening. She did not stop in Framingham, which has one of the largest Brazilian populations in Massachusetts…

This comment: >>We are Brazilians regardless of where we live,” said Fausto da Rocha>> Fausto apparently isn't well read about American History. By the way Fausto claims to be a American Citizen, obviously a "hyphenated American" What is a "hyphenated American"? Sunday Watching Sports: Brazilians Crazy Over Soccer Finals

Hundreds of fans in the local Brazilian community flocked to bars, restaurants and friends' houses to watch the soccer finals.

Emotions ran high Sunday, Dec. 4, within Framingham’s Brazilian community. It was a day of soccer finals in Brazil. Want to know how the passion for the sport runs through generations of Brazilian families? Ask Gildásio Martins de Oliveira. As the owner of Tropical Café, a restaurant at Hollis St., he invests $400 a month in cable TV just to broadcast soccer games of Campeonato Brasileiro, the Brazilian national championship. “It’s awesome to see people from different states come together to celebrate a tradition that reminds us all of good times in Brazil,” said Oliveira, who employs 35 people at his Framingham restaurant, and 25 more at his Marlborough location. Altogether, there were 10 soccer games happening in Brazil at the same time…

Brazilians Worried, Apathetic About Toxic Contamination in Neighborhood

Only about a dozen parents attended a Framingham Board of Health meeting about a chemical plant, that is located next door to their child's elementary school. Other parents are very concerned.

The emotions of parents of whose children attend Woodrow Wilson Elementary School range from apathetic to panic, when it comes to the school's neighbor General Chemical. Rosana Souza, a Brazilian mother of a third grader at Wilson Elementary School, speaks little English. “I was told that the whole school was contaminated. I called a teacher and she told me if that were the case, she wouldn’t be working there,” said Souza in Portuguese. Monday night at a hearing attended by more than 100 people Framingham Health Director Ethan Mascoop restated the school is safe. The air quality is tested very regularly, he added. Mascoop, who spoke for over an hour at Monday night's Board of Health hearing,  presented a series of safety violations he …

Unaccustomed to Hurricanes, Brazilians Not Preparing for Irene

Not used to hurricanes, the Brazilian population was not heading the warnings of Irene and taking precautions. To get the word out, a Framingham-based Portuguese radio station held an hour-long show about Irene.

Framingham's Brazilian community wasn't really believing the hype about Irene. At Smart Market, a Brazilian supermarket at 195 Hollis St., none of the emergency essential items, such as milk, water and batteries, flew from the shelves. “Brazilians don’t have a tradition to prepare for a natural disaster such as Irene,” said Alceu Venturoso, co-owner of Smart Market, who caters to the Brazilian and Hispanic populations. “Some comment that it’s (Irene) not so terrorizing. But I believe they don’t follow the American media.” Venturoso said Saturdays’ sales are usually higher than normal, but today’s sales are slimmer than in previous weeks. It looks like a normal rainy week day, he said. It is not that Brazilians are unaccomstomed to natural …

Woman's Death Concerns Other MedSpa Clients

The Brazilian woman was one of many who had or plans to have plastic surgery at Destination Beauty MedSpa.

At Ponto Visual Hair Salon this week, the talk has been all about the death of Adriana da Silva. Many are asking how Silva died at home, a day after she underwent a silicone breast implant surgery at a Framingham clinic popular with Brazilian women. Since Tuesday, when Framingham Patch broke the news of Silva's death, a half-dozen Brazilians have called this reporter seeking additional information about the reliability of Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, who Silva’s family said performed the plastic surgery at Destination Beauty MedSpa on Aug. 6. A handful of people spoke to Framingham Patch about surgeries they or their loved ones have had at Destination Beauty MedSpa, with one woman agreeing to use her full name. “I wanted to have that surgery so …

Locals Watched Closely Obama's First-Ever Visit to Brazil

Framingham's Brazilian immigrants and nationals were very interested in President Obama's first visit to Brazil. Over the weekend, Obama charmed the crowd with cultural references and speaking a little Portuguese.

President Barack Obama fulfilled a very busy agenda this weekend in his first-ever visit to Brazil.  This weekend's visit was very closely watched by Brazilians living in Framingham and Framingham residents, with Brazilian heritage. On Saturday, while he met with Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff, First Lady Michelle Obama watched a student presentation at a local indigenous-themed restaurant in that country’s capital, Brasília. She spoke about the power of self-improvement, noting that Brazil has inspired the world with its recent track of economic progress. It was from Brasilia that Obama ordered the U.S. participation in seizing Libya’s air space during the United Nations’ sanctioned military action to help protect the people of that …

Segundo o jornal “The Bangor Daily News,” publicado no Maine, Daniela tirou o visto canadense e entrou no Canadá por volta do Natal.
