Obit: 25-Year Framingham Firefighter James F. Garvey

Former U.S. Marine and Framingham Firefighter James F. Garvey, 68, died on Nov. 21, after a long illness.

James Francis “Jim” Garvey, 68, of Medway, passed away on Nov. 21, 2011 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife Susan Garvey. Born on Oct. 3, 1943 to the late June (Sobieski) and John Garvey in Natick, Garvey graduated from Natick High in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Sept. 30, 1961, serving honorably until Sept. 29, 1964. He re-enlisted on Feb. 28, 1967 serving honorably until March 17, 1970. A highly decorated Vietnam veteran, he was the recipient of numerous Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star with Combat V, the Silver Star, a Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation.
