I have to say that I have seen many many instances of these drivers flagrantly ignoring red lights, stop signs, tailgating, being WAY out of their lanes, and otherwise being ridiculously aggressive considering they are driving kids around. We were planning to put the kid on the bus this year but just in the limited time that I observed the five or so that share my same routes to and from school …   more ›

Busing Concerns To Be Addressed by Administration, Committee

School Administration is expected to meet with Durham School Services Tuesday morning to address concerns with the school buses. The Framingham School Committee is expected to tackle the subject at its meeting tonight at 7:30 at the high school.

On the first day of school, Heidi Masso drove and picked up her first grade son at McCarthy Elementary School. On the second day of school, her son was to take home bus #19. Instead, he got on bus #8 (as he did as a kindergartener) and was missing for almost an hour, said Masso. School administration said it will meet with Durham School Services, the company that has the new 5-year contract to supply school buses for Framingham, today.  The Framingham School Committee is also expected to address school busing concerns at its meeting tonight at 7:30 in room H100 at Framingham High School. School Committee Chair Beverly Hugo, specifically addressing an incident last week in which a different first grader at McCarthy Elementary School was …

Jim Rizoli CCFIILE.COM I was told they are busing drivers in from Worcester to drive in Framingham. They are getting $125.00 per day plus travel money. Can't wait to see the next contract. So this was supposed to save us money? I also feel sorry for the drivers, imagine driving in a town you have no clue about with all the traffic problems we do. We Framingham residents have enough problems …   more ›

I believe that I speak for the entire Framingham School Committee when I say that we are concerned and deeply regretful that these series of unfortunate incidents have occurred as our school year has commenced. Our committee shares the concerns expressed by many of the Patch readers.  Although our function is to act as budget and policy makers, I want to personally assure your readers that the School Committee and I plan to address this issue head on with the school department administration on Tuesday evening and to make sure that all necessary steps will be taken to assure that these types of incidents will not be repeated. On a personal level, as a parent who has experienced the anguish of being in a similar situation, I totally …

Tales of 2-Hour Bus Rides Home, New Drivers on Day 3

A few parents are outraged over children not dropped off from school until 5 p.m. Others are unhappy to hear on Day 3, they have new bus drivers, who don't know the routes.

On the first day of school, parents may not want any school bus problems, but they are understanding. This year, not only did Framingham Public Schools have a new bus company, a couple of dozen new drivers, but it was also dealing with the aftermath of storm Irene, which closed roads and caused detours. Day one tales including children never picked up and buses as much as 30 minutes later and as long as hour later dropping off after school. Day 2, Framingham Patch heard from many parents that things had improved. That was not the case on Day 3, Thursday, Sept 1. "My childrens' bus was an hour late getting home today. I can understand some amount of difficulty keeping to the schedule at the beginning of the school year as new drivers learn …
