POLICE LOG: Fireworks at 4 a.m.; Car Strikes Central Street Home

Sunday, Dec. 2: No arrests and 8 crashes 1:36 a.m.  Motor vehicle crash reported at Bishop and Howard streets. Car struck pole. NSTAR, Verizon, Cable & CSX notified. Highway department notified to provide detours.   1:42 a.m. Motor vehicle crash reported at 231 Central St. Car struck a house. Ambulance dispatched, but no transport. Building inspector notified to look at home.                                            4:14 a.m. Fireworks reported at 1622 Worcester Rd Apt 404. Police Log: Disturbance at Trader Joe's, Hit & Run at Boys and Girls Club

Wednesday, August 1 1:20 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a domestic problem. Erica M Nixon, 28, of 14 Anzio Rd., was arrested at her residence and charged with domestic assault and battery. 4:46 p.m.: A hit and run accident was reported at the Boys and Girls Club on Pearl Street. 6:50 p.m.: Police removed an undesirable from Bowditch Field on Union Avenue. 11:45 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a fight on Deloss Street. Dorcas Morris, 46, of 3 Deloss St., was arrested on a warrant. Thomas Tresca, 60, of 3 Deloss St., was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace on a noise and music complaint and resisting arrest. A few ways to safely enjoy fireworks this 4th of July.

For many, the Fourth of July and fireworks go hand-in-hand. However, each year, fire officials warn that, when amateurs and explosives are involved, Fourth of July fireworks very easily leave someone handless—or worse. State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan's website provides more than a dozen links to presentations and information detailing the dangers and illegality of fireworks. According to data on a report titled “Leave Fireworks to Pros,” from 2002 to 2011, there were 804 major fire and explosion incidents involving illegal fireworks reported in Massachusetts, which caused one civilian death, 18 civilian injuries, four fire service injuries and an estimated $2.5 million loss.
