Plans to revitalize the Mt. Wayte Shopping Plaza discussed as Economic Development and Industrial Corporation readies a marketing plan/proposal.
Framingham’s Economic Development and Industrial Corporation took a meaningful step to make the town more attractive to businesses, when the four-member panel agreed to participate in the Municipal Magnet program sponsored by the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce. “We are charged by the Board of Selectmen to take a look at Framingham and find ways to make the town more attractive to businesses,” said Economic Development and Industrial Corporation (EDIC) Chair Mike Gatlin Tuesday night. No applications were received for the four vacancies on the Framingham EDIC board. The board is charged with providing redevelopment projects to eliminate blighted areas and create jobs.
Selectmen were poised to appoint someone to the Framingham Economic Development and Industrial Corporation at its meeting Tuesday night but no applications were brought forward. A spokesperson in the Selectmen’s office said the town will again advertise for the vacancies. “We have not received any applications for the open positions." According to the town's Website there are seven seats on the EDIC, of which three are filled. There are no minutes of meetings posted for 2010 or 2011. The town’s EDIC was established in 1995 to spark economic development and increase employment opportunities. EDICs are quasi-public entities created by a municipality in accordance with state statute. But the state does not directly fund EDIC projects. The …
